Acromioclavicular Joint
articulation between the acromion process of the scapula and outer end of the clavicle
Gliding joint - allows for greater freedom of the shoulder girdle and shoulder
Sternoclavicular Joint
Saddle joint - only bony connection between the upper appendicular and axial skeletons
Movement of the clavicle relative to the sternum in shoulder girdle abduction/adduction and elevation/depression
Glenoid Fossa
main socket of the ball and socket joint. Where the head of the humerus articulates
Nuchal Ligament
occipital pertuberance to spinous process of C7
Supports the weight of the head
Point of attachment for some muscles
Fractured Clavicle
Most commonly fractured bone in the body
Caused by a direct impact to the shoulder
Usually occurs in the middle o towards lateral third
Fractured Clavicle Recovery
Rest and minimal movement - sling
Takes about 12 weeks
Surgery unusual unless it is a comminuted fracture
