Shoulder Joint (Glenohumeral Joint) Flashcards
1
Q
Mobility vs Stability
A
shoulder maximises movement but sacrifices stability. Rotator cuff tendons, glenohumeral ligaments, labrum and fibrous joint capsule add stability
2
Q
Rotator Cuff Injuries
A
Susceptible to damage from rapid/ballistic overhead activities
1. Muscle/tendon strain - occasionally rupture due to high, excessive forces
2. Impingement - typically due to compression of the supraspinatus in the subacromial space
3
Q
Shoulder Dislocation
A
Majority anterior dislocations
Causes: excessive abduction and external rotation, impact forcing the humeral head forwards
4
Q
Rotator Cuff Muscles
A
Subscapularis (anterior)
Supraspinatus (posterior)
Infraspinatus (posterior)
Teres minor (posterior)
