Wound Management (factors delaying healing) Flashcards
What are the reasons for delayed healing?
poor tissue perfusion
seroma formation- accumulation of serous fluid
necrotic tissue
tension at wound edges
Bacterial Contamination-
slows down healing process- breaks down blood clots and newly formed tissues- clean well
Contamination-
foreign bodies, slow down healing, all hair/grit/oil removed
Necrotic Tissue-
slows down healing, must get rid of damaged area before healing- cut away dead tissue
Wound Movement-
continued, fibrin being formed is broken
scar becomes bigger as stretched- splint leg
Poor Circulation-
lack of oxygen/ nutrients to wound
tight bandages
severity
amputation- tissue dies not enough blood supply (avulsed wounds)
Dead Space-
fills with fluid, prevents blood supply from reaching surface
Poor Condition-
undernourishment, old, underlying disease
