What are the symptoms of insomnia?
A
- Difficulty sleeping
- Difficulty staying asleep: multiple waking, early waking
- Poor quality sleep

What sleep hygiene advice can you give a patient?
A
- Keep sleep diary
- Light exercise if early evening
- Avoid caffeine, meals + alcohol close to bedtime
- Go to bed when tired
- Get up same time every morning

What is an OTC antihistamine treatment can be given?
A
Diphenhydramine, promethazine:
- 20-30mins before bed
- No more than 14 days
- S/e: anticholinergic, hangover effect
