WHY DO PEOPLE NOT VOTE Flashcards
POINT - BASIC RIGHT NOT TO VOTE
Explain - This means that even though we have the right to vote it does not mean we have too, some people choose not to vote as it as a choice they can make.
Example - The voter turnout in the 2021 election was 63%
POINT - NOT REGISTERED
Explain - to be able to vote in the Scottish elections you need to register yourself on the electoral register, without doing so you are unable to vote.
Example - those who are homeless are unable to register themselves meaning they can’t vote.
POINT - SAFE SEATS
Explain - some people don’t vote as they don’t see the point in it, some think that their vote won’t matter as they think a party or candidate is guaranteed to be elected so they don’t see the need of their vote.
Example - Michael Matheson has been the MSP of Falkirk since 2007.
