POINT - THE SYSTEM IS FAIRER

A

Explain - it produces a closer match between shares of votes and shares of seats. The vote is proportional, The number of votes a party gets us closer to the number of seats, this gives smaller parties a chance.
Example - In the 2016 Scottish Parliament election the Conservatives won 22% of votes and 24% of seat

POINT - VOTERS HAVE MORE CHOICE WITH TWO VOTES

A

Explain - this allows people to vote for an MSP they like to represent the constancy, but choose a different party for a regional MSP, there are less wasted votes
Example- Many voters give their second vote to smaller parties like the Scottish green Party

POINT - PEOPLE HAVE MORE REPRESENTATION

A

Explain - With AMS all the people living in a constituency have a directly elected MSP for that constituency. They also get seven additional MSP’s to represent them. This allows the voter to go to one of the 8 MSP’s
Example - Michael Mathieson is the local MSP for Falkirk West but there are other 7 MSP representing the central region
