Weight Training Flashcards
What does weight training improve?
It develops strength (low reps, high weight) and endurance (high reps, low weight)
What are sets and reps?
-A rep is the number of time you do it.
-A set is how many times you repeat the rep
How do we apply FITT principle to weight training?
-increase the resistance
-increase the number of reps and sets
-decrease rest time
What is a 1 rep max?
1 rep max refers to the maximum amount of weight a person can lift in a single rep. Intensity can be set using a percentage of this figure
What is the difference between the 3 endurances aka strength endurance (muscular endurance) ,elastic and maximum strength?
Strength endurance- repetitive movement of a muscles
Elastic-producing movement in quick succession
Maximum strength- single movement against a load
How do you apply intensity of the 3 endurances (how many reps and what % of 1RPM)?
Strength endurance- 20 reps- 50-60% RPM
Elastic endurance-12 reps-75% RPM
maximum strength-6reps-90% RPM
What are the advantages of weight training?
Can be adapted to suit different performers
What are the disadvantages of weight training?
-Requires specialist equipment
-if You use equipment incorrectly it can cause injury
