Muscular Strength And Endurance Flashcards
What is muscular strength?
The maximum force muscles or a group of muscles can produce
What’s it measured in (think weights)?
Measured in kilograms (KG) or newtons (N)
What are the 2 type of strengths?
Explosive strength and dynamic strength
What is explosive strength and what is dynamic strength
Explosive- one quick contraction
Dynamic- can be repeated
How can it be improved (muscular endurance and/or muscular strength)?
Through weight training or resistance training
What is muscular endurance?
The ability of the muscular system to work efficiently in which a muscle can repeatdly contract overtime against a light to moderate fixed resistance or load
Why is muscular endurance needed?
-Essential for long distance
-required so muscles don’t fatigue
What else do we need to apply (think kind of fitt and principles of training)?
Individual differences- the programme should be designed to meet individual training and needs.
Variation- it is important to vary training and needs.
Rest and recovery- required so that the body can recover from the training and to allow adaptation to occur
What are the 2 types of endurance test?
Sit up and press ups
What does the sit up test cover?
To test muscular endurance of the abdominals.
Units are Reps/minute
Requires stopwatch and mats
What does press up test cover?
Muscular endurance of upper body
Measured in rep/minute and for equipment they require stopwatch and mats
Advantages of both muscular tests?
-easy to conduct
-doesn’t need lots of equipment or space
Disadvantages of both muscular tests?
-may need an assistant to help conduct the tests
