Colonialism
Process by which some nations conquered, settled and exploited other areas of the world
Lupita Cultural Complex
crossing of open ocean in Oceania leading to the settlement in Pacific islands (possible because of technological advancement, boats, stick/ shell charts and stars)

spread of clovis culture (Arrow heads) seen everywhere along NA > trade networks spreading culture

Why groups did not become Colonizers
- lacked means, desire or both

-Aztecs, Mayans, Incas did locally but not overseas
What was the main cause of colonialism
surplus societies (but did not mean lack of food)
- requires a means and ideals to colonize
Function of Myths
scare and warn others about explorations: kept them from expansion
- “there be monsters” was the saying talking about outside areas

Great movement of exploration. Trying to find and claim more land before other empires did (15th-17thC),
Silk Road
Trade route which connected the East Asia and West Asia (Acted as a prelude to Age of Discovery), Named Silk Road because of the amount of silk exported
