Week 6: Histology of CV system Flashcards
What comprises tunica Intima?
Endothelium, basal lamina, connective tissue
What comprises tunica media?
Smooth muslce, elastic fibres
Which component of vessesl are nerve?
T. Adventitia
What vessel has internal elastic membrane?
Muscular artery
Layers of arteriole
Endothelium, 1-2 layers SM, thin T. adventitia
Types of Capillaries
Continuous, Fenestrated, Discontinuous
Continuous capillary
-skin, CNS. Zonula occludens hold endothelial cells together, pinocytic vesicles in cytoplasm, LArger molecules - selective transportedd, diffusion of gases & small molecules
Fenestrated capillary
- glands, GIT. 80nm holes in PM. +/- diaphragm
Discontinuous capillary
= sinusoid. e.g. in liver, bone marrow & spleen. Gaps between endothelial cells + pores within plasma membrane. partial/no basal lamina. Permeable to large molecules, erythrocytes & leukocytes
How do veins differ from arteries?
- Thinner walls. 2. larger lumen 4. irregular in shape 4. t. adventitia thickest layer. 5. may see valves
Walls of heart?
Epicardium, nyocardium, endocardium
Endocardium features
Endothelium + loose CT. + Purkinje fibres
Features of purkinje fibres
Modified cardiac muscle cells with nuronal function. Very large cells, round nuclei, pale staining. Located in endocardium
Myocardium features
Cardiac muscle. Thinner in atrium wall compared to ventricle. Single nuclesu, centrally located. Branched, intercalated discs.
Epicardum
Vsiceral layer of serious pericardium, simple squamous epithelium (mesothelium) +CT +Adipose
