Week 5: Histology of the Lower Respiratory system Flashcards
What are the 4 types of cells in olfactory epithelium?
Olfactroy receptor, sustentacular, brush, basal
What are 4 cell types of resp epithelium?
Ciliated, goblet, brush, basal
What is in submucosa of trachea?
Loose CT,submucosal glands, Trachealis muscle, cartilage rings
What has a thicker basement mebrane? Trachea or bronchus?
Trachea
Difference between submucosa of Bronchus and Bronchiole?
Bronchiole sub - no submucosal glands or cartilage - both have smooth muslce
Type 1 alveolar cells
Squamous (cover 95% of surface), 40% cell population, zonula occludens, cannot divide
Type 2 alveolar cells
Secrete surfactant, 6-% cell population, Cuboidal (cover 5% surface), maybe divide to become type 1 (if injury)
Bloo-air barrier
Alveoli lumen - AIR –> Surfactant, type 1 Alveolar cell, fused basal lamina, endothelial cell —> Capillary lumen
Whar are clara cells?
non-ciliated epithelial cells
secrete a surface-active lipoprotein
preventing luminal adhesion if airways collapse.
