Week 5.9 BBPV treatment Flashcards
what is a good tip to give patients before BPPV treatment
the treatment will cause their symptoms, and they should not sit up during treatment. also, keep their eyes open
how can canalithiasis be treated
directing with repositioning
how do you treat cupulolithiasis
treat first with a liberatory maneuver, following by repositioning
how do we treat canalithiasis for anterior/posterior canals and horizontal canals
anterior and posterior canals: Epley
horizontal canal: BBQ roll
if you have a canalithiasis you have two options… what are they?
immediately begin treatment,
or assess the other canal for involvement
what is the treatment for the anterior and posterior canal, and the horizontal canals for the cupulolithiasis
anterior or posterior is the semont liberatory
horizontal is the Gufoni
for cupulolithiasis, after the maneuver, you should…
reassess with positional testing
after the maneuver you should do 1 of 2 things… what are they
- if you still see the cupulolithiasis nystagmus pattern, do the liberatory movement again
- see a conversion from cup - can, then you need to do a repositioning maneuver.
what is the bad thing about the canal conversion
the biggest thing you want to avoid when treating BPPV because you don’t want to case a problem in another canal after you treat one.
should you end the session right after BPPV testing
yes, and don’t turn the head too quickly
