What is sexual wellness?
A state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity
What does sexual health require?
A positive and respectful approach to sexuality. As well as having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence
How many people in the US have an STI?
1 in 5 with a total of 68 million in 2018`
What is true about youth and STD/I?
15-24 account for half of all new STD infections
What cases have been increasing?
chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis
What is congenital syphilis?
Syphilis that is transmitted from mom to baby which has been skyrocketing
What was true about the UCLA study?
It involved only girls and very few had good knowledge of STI
What was true about the USC study?
It involved male and female undergrads where 35% had good herpes knowledge
What is a gain frame?
positive consequences of health behavior
What is a loss frame?
negative consequences of health behavior
What was a main find between those who knew the HP campaign and those who didn’t?
Those who knew the HP campaign knew more about modes of transmission, groups affected, symptoms, etc.
