What is history?
Acts, ideas, or events that will or can shape the course of the future
What is power?
The capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events
What is privilege?
A right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit,
advantage, or favor.
What are structural inequalities?
Condition where one category of people are
attributed an unequal status in relation to other
categories of people
What is health equity?
Health equity means that everyone has a fair and just
opportunity to be as healthy as possible.
What does health equity require?
poverty, discrimination, and their consequences, including powerlessness and lack of access
What are structural determinants of health?
Structural Determinants are the ‘root causes’ of health
inequities. Structural determinants include the governing process, economic and social policies
What are upstream interventions?
Improving community conditions like laws, policies, and regulations
What are midstream interventions?
social workers, community health, and address individual /social needs
What are downstream interventions?
Medical interventions like providing clinical care
What is social justice?
Justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society
