community sport, amateur, “sport for all”
- purpose is to get as many people participating as possible (large number of participants)
elite sport
- high performance, semi/professional, “cream of the crop”
- the best of the best, in terms of number of participants = much fewer
organized sport
formal organizing body; rule-bound
- typically offered through some type of organization
non-organized sport
- no formal organizing body; free play
- there is no organizing body
(ie. like a drop in lane swim)
