Q

What is methotrexate toxicity?

A

Both trimethoprim and methotrexate reduce folate metabolism, leading to additive effects.

You end up with liver toxicity, bone marrow suppression, neutropenia, and infection.

Q

What are the pharmacokinetics of macrolides?

A

Erythromycin is destroyed by stomach acid (enteric coating)

Iv administration causes phlebitis

Absorption of azithromycin and erythromycin reduced by food.

Inhibits hepatic metabolism of theophyline, warfarin and statins.

Clarythromycin excreted by kidneys (reduce dose in renal impairment)
