Q

What are Transverse waves?

A
  • Oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer.
  • Oscillations: Up and Down.
  • Direction of energy transfer: Sideways.
  • Not all transverse waves require a medium.

Q

What are longitudinal waves?

A

Consists:

  • Compression: Stretched out region of the wave where the particles are close together.
  • Rare fractions: Region in wave where the particles are furthest apart.
  • Oscillations are parallel to the direction of energy transfer.
  • Requires a medium to travel in.
