The eletrical motor: Flashcards
1
Q
What is the motor effect?
A
= when a conductor is carrying a wire it experiences a force in a magnetic field.
2
Q
How does a split ring commutator work?
A
= connected to conducting brushes- allows current to pass onto the ring
= force makes the motor rotate in a clockwise direction
= current is broken from a fraction of a second, wire keeps turning due to momentum
= current switches direction
3
Q
Without the split ring commutator what happens?
A
= rotate clockwise BUT = once at 90 degrees it will stop rotating = if it is further than 90 degrees: = force on left: acts downwards = force on right: Act upwards = pushes loop back to 90 degrees
4
Q
How would be solve this problem?
A
= switch direction of current when loop passes 90 degrees
5
Q
What does a split ring commutator allow ?
A
= Motor to rotate in the same direction
