Forces: Newton's second law. Flashcards
1
Q
What is Newtons second law of motion?
A
- The acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting to the object and inversley proportional to the mass of the object.
- Greater Force= Greater acceleration.
- Mass is larger= Acceleration is smaller.
2
Q
How do we calculate the force needed to accelerate an object?
A
- Force (N)= Mass (kg) x Acceleration m/s^2.
3
Q
What is Inertia?
A
- Object will remain stationary or move at the same speed or direction unless an resultant force is applied
4
Q
What is inertial mass?
A
- Measure of how difficult it is to change the velocity of an object.
- Ratio of the force needed to accelerate an object over the acceleration produced.
