Q

What happens when the brakes are pressed?

A
  • When brakes are pressed the force of friction acts between the wheels and the brake.
  • Causes the kinetic energy of the car to be converted into the thermal energy of the brakes.
  • The temperature of the brakes increases and the car slows down loosing it’s kinetic energu.

Q

The greater the speed the greater the what?

A
  • Greater braking force needed to stop the car in a certain distance.
  • Travelling in High Speeds: Apply large braking force + Causes car to deceelerate rapidly.
  • Large amount of kinetic energy is being transferred into the thermal energy of the brakes.
  • ## Causes brakes to overheat + Loose control of vehicle.
