From above: Geniohyoid and then mylohyoid
From below: Digastric and then mylohyoid
What lines the anterior 2/3 of the tongue?
Mucosa with papillae
What lines the posterior 1/3 of the tongue?
Lymphoid tissue known as lingual tonsils
What are the extrinsic muscles of the tongue?
- Styloglossus
- Palatoglossus
- Genioglossus
What are the teeth and how many of them are there?
2 incisors
1 Canine
2 pre-molars
3 molars
What nerve innervates the upper and lower teeth?
Upper: V2 (superior alveolar)
Lower: V3 (Inferior alveolar)
Where does the parotid duct empty?
Opposite 2nd molar
Where is the submandibular gland?
Opens beneath tongue, part above and part below mylohyoid muscle
Where is the sublingual gland?
Lateral to the tongue in the floor of the mouth
What are the margins of the oropharynx?
Begins at back of the arches (where teeth finish) and roof is soft palate, sides are palatoglossal and palatopharyngeal arches
What is the palatine aponeurosis?
attaches musculus uvulae to the hard palate
Which muscles seal off the nasal cavity?
Tensor Veli Palatini
Levator Veli Palatini
What 5 muscles support the soft palate and make it move?
Tensor Veli Palatini Levator Veli Palatini Musculus Uvulae Palatoglossus Palatopharyngeus
What is Waldeyer’s ring?
Incomplete ring of lymphoid tissue deep to the mucosa
