White Adipose Tissue
A lipid storage tissue of mammals; distinct from brown adipose tissue. Other vertebrates lack brown adipose tissue, and white adipose tissue is typically referred to simply as “adipose tissue.”

White Muscle
A muscle fiber type specialized for rapid, high-intensity contractions that continue for a short duration; usually composed of type IIb myosin isoforms.
Work
The transfer of energy that occurs when force is exerted on a body to cause it to move.
Work Loop
A method used to assess whether a muscle is performing positive or negative work.
