General Elections happen every five years.

The Prime Minister can call an early election for thing such as a government minority which is preventing things from being complete.

Older people tend to vote for the Conservatives while younger people vote for Labour.
Why do older people vote for the Conservatives?
Older people are more likely to vote for the Conservatives because they have more individualist ad conservative views.
Why do younger people vote for Labour?
Younger people are more likely to vote for Labour because they have more collectivist and liberal views.

The election focus can effect a persons voting behaviour due to their personal views.

In the 2024 General Election, older people voted for the Conservatives who were against immigration while younger people voted for Labour who were supportive of immigration.
Why is age the most important factor effecting voting behaviours?
Age is the most important factor as younger people grow up with current day issues and new and more open minutes to them while older people may feel less comfortable with change.

Every post war General Election prior to 2017 have seen middle class (ABC1) vote for the Conservatives while the working class (C2DE) vote for Labour.
Why do the Conservatives appeal to the middle class?
The Conservatives are more right wing and individualistic so are going to align with the views of and benefit the middle class more.

Labour are more left wing and collectivists so are going to align with the views of and benefit the working class more.

Class dealignment is where social class based voting is declining and that is currently happening.

In the last 11 General Elections, newspaper endorsement has been directly linked to the winner of the election.
What role does The Sun play in the voting behaviours of the public?
The Sun is the largest newspaper in the UK and have always backed the election winners.
Why is the role of The Sun not actually that significant?
The Sun knows the views and voting intentions of readers and so replicates this to increase their readership and therefore always end up supporting the winners because of their using of voting intention polls.
Why is the media a decreasingly less significant factor?
Newspaper readership is continually decreasing and it is instead being replaced by social media platforms which are now holding a lot more influence.
How do Wales and Northern England tend to vote compared to voters in Southern England?
At successive General Elections, Wales and Northern England have voted for Labour while Southern England have voted for the Conservatives.
Why do voting behaviours differ in Wales and Northern England compared to Southern England?
There are collectivist views in Wales and Northern England which means Labour would benefit them best which is the same for Southern England and the Conservatives and their aligning individualist views.
How have rural areas voted in England and Wales compared to urban areas?
English and Welsh cities have voted for Labour while rural areas have voted for Conservatives.
Why have rural voters in England and Wales differed to urban areas?
The age in cities is lower due to students attending university and better employment opportunities, and also there are more BAME individuals populated there.

Scots have voted for Labour in 15 of 18 General Elections, the other three being the SNP during the 2015, 2017, and 2019 elections.
Why did votes change to voting the SNP during the 2015, 2017, and 2019 elections?
There was an independence focus in the 2015, 2017, and 2019 elections which gained the SNP support but now it has been lost again especially now since Nicola Sturgeon has resigned and she is now under police investigation.

Geographical location links to other factors such as age, ethnicity and social class and so cannot be classed as significant.
