Q

Discussion of VO2 and VO2max

A
  • they do not inhale and expire the same amount of air
  • have more oxygen deficit in the beginning of exercise because it’s more difficult to reach steady state
  • low VO2max level is most likely cardiac patient, high level is most likely athlete

Q

Fuel usage at rest and during the rest-to-exercise transition

A
  1. ATP production increases immediately (ATP-PCr)
  2. O2 uptake increases rapidly (steady state is reached within 1-4 minutes)
  3. Delay in O2 uptake at beginning of exercise (O2 deficit)
  4. Once SS reached, ATP is met through aerobic ATP production (oxidation, fat metabolism)
