How does O2 relate to ETC?
A
O2 is final electron receptor in aerobic (oxidative metabolism)
For each pair of hydrogen atoms, 2 electrons flow down the chain and reduce 1 O2 atom.
The process ends when O2 accepts 2 H’s and forms H2O.
This coupled redox process constitutes hydrogen oxidation after oxygen reduction
