Oxygen Transport System and Calorimetry (Section 3) Flashcards
Oxygen Transport Systems factors in order (5)
Pulmonary Hemoglobin Concntration Blood volume/Cardiac Output Peripheral blood flow Aerobic metabolism repeat
Explain the connection between work, calorie, and calorimetry
Calorimetry = measures the number of calories being burned. Calories are gained through food and are used to produce work.
Work = Force x Distance Calorie = amount of heat required to raise 1 gram of water +1 Celsius
Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) (3)
Thermic Effect of Feeding (10%)
Thermic Effect of Physical Activity (15-30%)
Resting Metabolic Rate (60-75%)
Thermic Effect of Feeding (10%)
food intake, cold stress, thermogenic drugs
Thermic Effect of Physical Activity (15-30%)
(duration and intensity at job, home, or in sports
Resting Metabolic Rate (60-75%)
(fat-free body mass, gender, thyroid hormones, protein turnover)
includes: sleep metabolism, basal metabolism, and arousal metabolism
