Vessels of the Gut: Coeliac Trunk Flashcards
Origin of Coeliac Trunk
It has a very short course (1cm long), it originates from Abdominal Aorta opposite upper border L1 Vertebra/ Lower Border T12 Vertebra just below diaphragmatic opening, 1cm above origin of Superior Mesenteric A
Course of Coeliac trunk
It runs Forwards, above Omental Tuberosity of Pancreas
Superior relations of Coeliac Trunk
median Arcuate ligament of Diaphragm
Inferior relations of Coeliac trunk
Omental Tuberosity of Pancreas
Anterior relations of Coeliac trunk
Lesser sac, seperating The Coeliac trunk from lesser omentum
Lateral Relations of Coeliac Trunk
3 Coeliac:
* Coeliac Lymph nodes
* Coeliac Ganglia
* * Coeliac plexus of Nerves
Diaphragm crura
Coeliac trunk is seperated anteriorly from lesser omentum by
Lesser Sac
3 terminal Branches of Coeliac Trunk
- Left Gastric A
- Hepatic A
- Splenic A
Smallest branch of the 3 terminal br of Coelic trunk
Left Gastric A
Largest branch of the 3 terminal br of Coelic trunk
Splenic A
Course of Left Gastric Artery
- originates from Coeliac Trunk
- Moves Upwards & to the left, behind Lesser sac
- it reaches to cardiac End of Stomach
- It then descends along Lesser curvature
- Ends by anastomosing with right Gastric A
Branches of Left Gastric A & their Distributions
Oesophageal Branches:
* Ascends through oesophageal opening of diaphragm
* Supplies Abdominal parts of oesophagus & lower thoracic part of eosophagus
Gastric Branches:
* To upper part of lesser curvature & the adjoining parts of stomach (except for pyloric region)
Course of Splenic A Artery
- Originates from Coeliac trunk
- It moves left posterior to (lesser sac &) Stomach, by running along Upper border of Pancreas
- It crosses in front of: Left crus of Diaphragm, left suprarenal gland, left kindey
- It then enters splenorenal (lineorenal) ligament
- Near the spleen, it divides into splenic terminal branches that enter the hilum of spleen
Enumerate branches of Splenic Artery
5 branches:
* Pancreatic Branches: largest of them is called arteria pancreatica magna
* Short gastric Branches
* Left Gastro-epiploic Artery
* Posterior gastric Artery
* Terminal Splenic arteries
Short gastric branches of splenic A Arise from ____ & enter ____
terminal part of splenic A, & enter Gastrosplenic ligament
Short gastric Branches of Splenic Artery supplies ____
Fundus of Stomach
Course of Left Gastro-epiploic Artery
- Arises from terminal part of Splenic Artery
- it Descends downwards and to the right along Greater curvature, between Anterior Descending 2 layers of Greater omentum
- Ends by Anastomosing with Right gastro-epiploic Artery
Left Gastro-epiploic Artery supplies ____
Stomach (along greater curvature) & greater omentum
Posterior gastric Artery Arises from
Intermidiate part of Splenic Artery
Course of Posterior Gastric Artery
Ascends from intermidiate part of Splenic Artery behind lesser sac, up to fundus of Stomach, then to Descnds along posterior wall of Stomach
Course of Hepatic Artery
- Arises from Coeliac trunk
- it move to the right & forewards, superior to 1st part duodenum, as Common Hepatic A
- It then enters & runs through free border of lesser omentum, being anterior to portal vein & left to common bile duct, as Proper Hepatic A
- It ends at porta hepatis by by dividing into right & left terminal branches
Enumerate branches of Hepatic A
- Right gastric A
- Gastrodudenal A
- Supraduodenal A
- Right and left (terminal) hepatic A
Course of Right gastric A
- Arises from hepatic A just above duodenum
- runs to the left in along lesser curvature, between 2 layers of lesser omentum
- Ends by anastomosing with left gastric A
Right Gastric Artery supplies____
- Pyloric Region of stomach
- 1st part of Dudoenum (additional not main)
Course of Gastroduodenal Artery
- Arise from Hepatic A just above duodenum
- Descends behind Middle of first part duodenum
- Ends by dividing into 2 terminal branches (superior pancreatico-duodenal A & Right Gastro-epiploic A )
Relations of Gastroduodenal Artery
- Anterior: 2nd inch of 1st part duodenum
- Posterior: Portal Vein
- Right: common bile duct
course of Superior Pancreatico-duodenal A
- Arises as 1 of 2 terminal branches of Gastroduodenal A
- Descends in groove between Duodenum & pancreas
- Ends by anastomosing Inferior Pancreatico-dudoenal A
Course of right Gastro-epiploic A
- Arises as 1 of 2 terminal Branches of Gastroduodenal A (of hepatic A)
- Runs to the left along greater curvature between 2 layers of Greater omentum
- Ends by Anastomosing with left gastro-epiploic A
Supraduodenal Artery origin
(inconsitant) either from hepatic A itself, or 1 of its branches (gastroduodenal A)
Supraduodenal Artery Supplies____
Proximal inch (1st inch) of 1st part of duodenum
Cystic Artery Arises from ____ it passes behind ____ and reaches
- Right terminal Hepatic A
- behind common hepatic duct
- Calot’s triangle & gall bladder
