Large intestine: Arterial Supply, lymphatic drainage & Nerve supply Flashcards
Parts of Colon derived from Midgut are supplied by Arterial branches of
Superior Mesenteric A
Superior Mesenteric A branches supplying Colon (midgut)
- IleoColic A
- Right Colic A
- Middle Colic A
Parts of Colon derived from hindgut are supplied by Arterial branches of
Inferior Mesenteric Artery
Branches of Inferior Mesenteric Artery Supplying Colon (Hindgut)
Superior & inferior left Colic Arteries
Inferior Left colic Becomes Sigmoid A
Surgical Importance Of Marginal A of durmmond
- It connects all Arteries, thus creating channels between Superior & inferior mesenteric As, it also give direct branches to colon (vasa recta)
- Therefore it can maintain** Viability **of Long segments of Colon after division of major Colic Branches
- this allows for possibilty of Colon bypass surgery
Lymph nodes Receiving drainages of Colon
- Epicolic LN: on wall of bowel
- Paracolic LN: between Marginal A and bowel
- Intermediate nodes: along Colic Arteries
- Central Nodes: along superior & inferior mesenteric Arteries
Parasympathetic Nerve supply of Colon
divided into 2 groups:
* Caecum, ascending & right 2/3 of transverse Colon= Vagus N
* Left 1/3 transverse Colon, descending & Sigmoid Colon= Pelvic Splanchnic N (Nervi erigente) from S2,3,4
Sympathetic Nerve supply of Colon
Greater & lesser Splanchnic Nerves
(supplying Symp. to BV)
