Pancreas & Pancreatic Ducts Flashcards
Types of Secretions from pancreas
Mixed
* Endocrine: Insulin, Glucagon, Gastrin
* Exocrine: Pancreatic Juices with digestive enzymes
Site of Pancreas
- Epigastrium & left Hypochondrium
- Extending from 2nd part duodenum from right to Hilum of spleen to left
Anterior relations of proper head of pancreas
- Transverse colon
- coils of small intestine
Posterior relations of proper head of Pancreas
- Common bile duct
- Inferior Vena Cava
Superior, right & inferior relation of Proper head of Pancreas
Duodenum
Anterior relations of Uncinate process of pancreas
Superior mesenteric vessels
Posterior relations of Uncinate process of pancreas
Abdominal Aorta
Anterior relations of Neck of Pancreas
Pylo-dudoenal Junction (between them is the lesser sac)
Posterior relations of Neck of Pancreas
Union of Splenic Vein with Sup. mesenteric Vein to form portal V
Structures related to Anterior surface of body of pancreas
Stomach (between them is the lesser sac)
Structures related to inferior surface of body of pancreas
- Coils of jujenum
- Duodeno-jujenal Junction
- Transverse colon
Structures related to posterior surface of body of pancreas
- left kidney
- left suprarenal gland
- Left psoas major
- left sympathetic chain
- Splenic Vein
- left renal Vein
- Left crus of Diaphragm
- Abdomina Aorta
- Origin of Superior mesenteric A from Abdominal Aorta
Structures related to Superior border of body of pancreas
- Coeliac trunk
- Spleni Artery
- Coelic ganglia
superior border shows omental Tuberosity
Structures related to Anterior border of body of pancreas
gives attachement to transverse mesocolon
Structures related to inferior border of body of pancreas
loops of jejunum
Tail of pancreas run in which ligment
lienorenal (splenorenal)
relation of Tail pancreas to Hilum of spleen
related below lateral end of hilum of spleen
Formation of Main Pancreatic Duct (duct of wirsung)
- it begins at the tail of pancreas
- it runs to the right in the body, neck & head of pancreas
- It unites with common bile duct to form Ampulla of Vater
Main pancreatic duct opens in
posteromedial aspect of 2nd part of duodenum, at Major duodenal Papillae (being surrounded by Sphincter of oddi
Formation of Accessory Pancreatic Duct (duct of Santorini)
- Begins at pancreatic head & uncinate process
- Passes upwards in front of main pancreatic Duct & common bile duct
- Opens in Minor Duodenal Papillae 1cm above major papillae
Describe Arterial Supply of Pancreas
Head (supplied by pancreaticodudenal Arteries):
1. Superior pancreaticoduodenal A (from gatroduodenal A)
2. Inferior Pancreaticoduodenal A (from Superior mesenteric A)
Neck, body & tail:
* Supplied by Pancreatic branches from Splenic A (indirectly supplied by Coeliac Trunk)
Describe venous drainage of Pancreas
- Head: sup. mesneteric V & Portal V
- body & tail: splenic V
Lymphatic Drainage of Pancreas
- Pancreaticosplenic LN (around Splenic A)
- Coeliac LN (around coeliac trunk)
- Superior Mesenteric LN (around sup. mesenteric A)
Nerve Supply of Pancreas
Autonomic NS from Coeliac Plexus
