Vesicular transport Flashcards

1
Q

What are the roles of clathrin and adaptin in vesicle transport

A

Clathrin:
-plays a crucial role in cellular transport by forming a protein coat around membranes, facilitating the formation of small vesicles that bud off from the cell membrane, allowing for the uptake (endocytosis) and release (exocytosis) of various molecules like nutrients, receptors, and signaling proteins within the cell

Adaptin:
protein subunits that function as crucial components of adaptor protein (AP) complexes, playing a critical role in intracellular trafficking by selecting and sorting cargo molecules into nascent transport vesicles within the cell, essentially determining which molecules get packaged and transported to specific destinations within the cell

Q

Explain vesicle tethering

A

Two groups of tethering proteins:
-Rod shaped fibrous proteins (large distance, 50-200nm)
-Large, multiprotein complexes (shorter distances)
