Q

How are vesicles targeted to a particular compartment

A
  1. Movement of vesicle toward specific target compartment
    -Microtubules, motor proteins
  2. Tethering vesicles to target compartment
-Mediated by diverse collection of ‘tethering’ proteins
  3. Docking vesicles to target compartment
-Close contact of membranes via interaction integral proteins
  4. Fusion

Q

What is exocytosis

A

-Discharge of secretory vesicle/granule after fusion with plasma membrane
-Triggered by increase in calcium
-Contact between vesicle and plasma membrane = fusion pore
-Vesicle membrane: luminal part = extracellular surface of plasma membrane, cytosolic part = intracellular surface
