Q

What is the Anulus Fibrousus ?

A

Intervertebral disc is composed of two parts:
Anulus fibrosus
Strong outer ring of collagen surrounding fibrocartilage, arranged in a lamellar structure.
This strong connection limits rotation of vertebrae.

Q

Throughout the vertebral column there is usually bony overlap to afford more protection to the vertebral canal. However, in certain areas (e.g. Lumbar) there is more space between vertebrae and movement of the vertebral column can also widen these spaces.

  1. Can you think of any advantages and disadvantages to these spaces?
A

Advantage - Space for lumbus puncture.

Disadvantages -
