What is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis?

A

a.k.a. motor neurone disease
or (USA) Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Severe progressive neurodegeneration: stiffness, weakness, muscle atrophy spasms, paralysis, inability to breathe
sometimes dementia
death usually 2-4 years

Loss of motor neurones

Onset usually 50-60; no cure
