Vehicle Classes Flashcards
Motorcycle (R) - May drive:
- A motor bike.
- A motor trike (other than a car-based motor trike).
Car (C) - May drive:
- A motor vehicle with a GVM that is not greater than 4.5 tonnes and that is constructed or equipped to seat not more than 12 adults (including the driver).
- A car-based motor tricycle.
- Any tractor or implement.
- May tow a single trailer with a GVM not exceeding 9 tonnes.
- Not a motor bike or trike.
Light Rigid (LR) - May drive:
- A motor vehicle with a GVM that is greater than 4.5 tonnes but not greater than 8 tonnes.
- Seats more than 12 adults (including the driver) GVM not greater than 8 tonnes.
- Any vehicle under a Class C licence.
- May tow a single trailer with a GVM not exceeding 9 tonnes.
- Not a motor bike or trike.
Medium Rigid (MR) - May drive:
- A motor vehicle with a GVM that is greater than 8 tonnes with 2 axles.
- Any vehicle under a Class C licence.
- Any vehicle under a Class LR licence.
- May tow a single trailer with a GVM not exceeding 9 tonnes.
- Not a motor bike or trike.
Heavy Rigid (HR) - May drive:
- A motor vehicle with a GVM that is greater than 8 tonnes with 3 or more axles.
- An articulated bus (but not any other articulated vehicle).
- Any vehicle under a Class C licence.
- Any vehicle under a Class LR licence.
- Any vehicle under a Class MR licence.
- May tow a single trailer with a GVM not exceeding 9 tonnes.
- Not a motor bike or trike.
Heavy Combination (HC) - May drive:
- A prime mover to which is attached a single semi-trailer plus any unladen converter dolly.
- A rigid motor vehicle to which is attached a trailer that has a GVM greater than 9 tonnes plus any unladen converter dolly.
- An articulated bus (but not any other articulated vehicle).
- Any vehicle under a Class C licence.
- Any vehicle under a Class LR licence.
- Any vehicle under a Class MR licence.
- Any vehicle under a Class HR licence.
- Not a motor bike or trike.
Multi Combination (MC) - May drive:
- Any motor vehicle or combination of vehicles (all classes)
- Not a motor bike or trike.
Vehicle Classes (A/B/C) - GVM
Class A Motor Vehicle:
* GVM or GCM (combination) not exceeding 4.5 tonnes.
Class B Motor Vehicle:
* GVM or GCM (combination) exceeding 4.5 tonnes, but not exceeding 12 tonnes.
Class C Motor Vehicle:
* GVM or GCM (combination) exceeding 12 tonnes.
Class A motor vehicle means?
A motor vehicle with a GVM not exceeding 4.5 tonnes, or A motor vehicle and trailer combination with a GCM not exceeding 4.5 tonnes.
Class B motor vehicle means:
A motor vehicle with a GVM exceeding 4.5 tonnes but not exceeding 12 tonnes, or A motor vehicle and trailer combination with a GCM exceeding 4.5 tonnes but not exceeding 12 tonnes.
Class C motor vehicle means:
A motor vehicle with a GVM exceeding 12 tonnes, or A motor vehicle and trailer combination with a GCM exceeding 12 tonnes.
