Exemptions for wearing a Seat belt:

D. DELIVERY:
Driver engaged in door-to-door DELIVERY or collection of goods/waste/garbage and is required to get in/out/off/on the vehicle at frequent intervals and the vehicle does not travel over 25 km/h.
R. REVERSING:
Driver is REVERSING.
E. EMERGENCY vehicle:
Person in a police or EMERGENCY vehicle not in the front row of seats or in a caged area designed for passengers.
A. ABSENCE of seatbelt.
Passenger in a seating position not fitted with a seatbelt and there is no requirement for that seating position to have a seatbelt fitted. (Not under 7 years old).
M. MEDICAL certificate:
Person in possession of a MEDICAL certificate
- Signed, Dated, Issued by a medical practitioner, With an Expiry date and, Must be produced on demand.
P. PUBLIC bus:
Passenger on a PUBLIC bus.
T. TWO-up driver:
A TWO-up driver utilising a sleeper compartment for rest purposes in a bus or truck.
M. MEDICAL treatment.
Person is providing or receiving urgent/necessary MEDICAL treatment.
Exemptions for keeping left of dividing line:
- Avoiding an obstruction.
- Entering/leaving the roadway.
- Entering an emergency stopping lane.
- Entering a service road.
- Overtaking (if permitted).
- Perform a U-turn (if permitted).
Exemptions for turning (right or left) from not (right or left) lane on multi lane road:
- Road markings (lanes) indicate otherwise – two right or left turn lanes.
- Obstructions.
- Under direction of a police officer.
- Vehicle is 7.5 metres, or longer and,
- Vehicle displays a ‘do not overtake turning vehicle sign’,
- Any part of the vehicle is within 50 metres of the intersection,
- It is not practicable for the driver to turn within the lane,
- Driver can safely occupy the next marked lane and safely turn. - Special purpose lane (bus only) does not permit the driver to travel in the lane to make a turn.
Exemptions for not keeping left on multi lane road:
- Road is not over 80 km/h,
- Road does not have a ‘keep left unless overtaking’ sign applying to the road,
- Turning right or making a U-turn from the centre of the road and giving a change of direction signal,
- Overtaking,
- Approaching or passing a stationary emergency response vehicle with a flashing red/blue/yellow light,
- A ‘left lane must turn left’ sign or left traffic lane arrow applies to any other lane and the driver is not turning left,
- Driver is required to drive in the right lane under rule 159,
- Avoiding an obstruction,
- Traffic congestion in each other lane,
- Right lane is a special purpose lane which the driver is permitted to drive in,
- There are only two lanes and the left lane is a slow vehicle turn out lane.
Exemptions for riding on footpath:
- A child under 12 years of age.
- An adult or anyone else riding in company of a child under 12 years old.
- A postal worker on a bicycle.
- An adult on a bicycle carrying a child under 10 years of age.
Exemptions for displaying rear reflective maker plates:
- A bus that is fitted with hand grips/rails for use by standing passengers to hold onto is exempt from the requirement to display rear marking plates.

Driver being submitted to a driving test (as an applicant).
P: PEDAL CYCLE:
Driver of a Pedal cycle with auxiliary motors (max 200 watts)
I. INVALID:
Driver of a vehicle specifically constructed to be used and is used solely for the conveyance of an invalid; and not capable of travelling at more than 10 km/h.
G. GRASS-CUTTING:
Driver of a vehicle not more than 250kgs un-laden, that is constructed or used solely for the cutting of grass.

When does an interstate registered vehicle become unregistered in New South Wales?
- Registered in another state or territory and no longer temporarily garaged in NSW
- Registered in another state or territory of which is cancelled or expired.
- No number plates affixed to the vehicle
Trailer from Victoria conditions to be exempt from registration in New South Wales.
- is being towed by a motor vehicle that is registered in Victoria, and 2. is exempt from registration in Victoria, and
- is not used in the course of trade, and
- weighs less than 200 kilograms un laden, and
- has a manufactured width not exceeding the width of the towing vehicle

Police exemption to the road rules
Road Rules 2014, Section 305
A provision of these Rules does not apply to the driver of a police vehicle if in the circumstances:
the driver is taking reasonable care; and
it is reasonable that the rule should not apply; and
if the motor vehicle is moving the vehicle is displaying a blue or red flashing light or sounding an alarm.
