Definition of “Drive”
To be in control of the steering, movement or propulsion of a vehicle, and in relation to a trailer, draw or tow the trailer, and ride a vehicle.
Definition of “Road”
An area that is open to or used by the public and is developed for, or has as one of its main uses, the driving or riding of motor vehicles.
*Does not include an area declared not to be a road, or
*Any shoulder of the road.
Definition of “Road related area’
A road related area is any of the following—
(a) an area that divides a road,
(b) a footpath or nature strip adjacent to a road,
(c) an area that is not a road and that is open to the public and designated for use by cyclists or animals,
(d) an area that is not a road and that is open to or used by the public for driving, riding or parking vehicles.
Definition of “Driver”
A driver is the person who is driving a vehicle (except a motor bike, bicycle, animal or animal-drawn vehicle)
*Does not include a person pushing a motorised wheelchair
Definition of “Motor Vehicle”
Means a vehicle (other than a bicycle) that is built to be propelled by a motor that forms part of the vehicle.
Definition of a crash
- A collision on a road or road related area involving a motor vehicle / vehicle or a horse
- A collision not on a road involving a motor vehicle
Define a crash participant
At the time of the crash
1. Driving a motor vehicle involved in the crash
2. Occupying the drivers seat of a motor vehicle involved in the crash and attempting to put the motor vehicle into motion
3. Holder of an applicable drivers licence and occupying the seat in the motor vehicle next to a learner driver who was driving a motor vehicle involved in the crash, and
- At least 15 years old.
What is urgent duty defined as?
Duty that has become pressing or demanding prompt action.
What is the definition of a pursuit?
It is an attempt by a police officer in a motor vehicle to stop and apprehend the occupant/s of a moving vehicle, regardless of speed or distance, when the driver of the other vehicle is attempting to avoid apprehension or appears to be ignoring police attempts to stop them. A pursuit commences at the time you decide to pursue a vehicle that has ignored a direction to stop.
What is the definition of an Authorised person?
Authorised person means:
A police officer, and A person who is appointed by the Authority
What is the definition of a Bus?
A motor vehicle built mainly to carry people that seats over 12 adults (including the driver)
What is the definition of a Heavy Vehicle?
Any motor vehicle or trailer that has a GVM exceeding 4.5 tonnes.
What is the definition of a rider?
A rider is the person who is riding a motor bike, bicycle, animal or animal-drawn vehicle.
What is the definition of a Trailer:
A vehicle that is built to be towed, or is towed by a motor vehicle, but does not include a motor vehicle that is being towed.
What is the definition of an Articulated Vehicle:
A motor vehicle or trailer combination in which the hauling unit (prime mover) is coupled to a semi trailer so that the front part of the trailer overlaps the rear portion of the hauling unit.
