Vascular Shunt Mechanism Flashcards
During exercise, what does the VCC do
The VCC decreases sympathetic stimulation of the arteriolar and pre-capillary sphincters to the working muscles and increases sympathetic stimulation of the arterioles and pre-capillary sphincters to the organs
During recovery what does the VCC do
Increases sympathetic stimulation of arteriols and pre-capillary sphincters to working muscles and decreases the sympathetic stimulation of the arteriols and re-capillary sphincters to the organs
What do the chemoreceptors do during exercise and recovery
Measure increases and decreases of 02 and C02 etc…
What do the baroreceptors do during exercise and recovery
Detect increases and decreases in blood pressure
What do the proprioceptors detect during exercise and recovery
Increases and decreases in muscle activity
What are intrinsic factors referring to during heart rate regulation
Factors inside the heart
What are extrinsic factors referring to when talking about heart regulation
Factors outside the heart
What are the two intrinsic factors of heart regulation
- Temperature
2. VR
What are the 4 extrinsic factors of heart rate regulation
- Baroreceptors
- Chemoreceptors
- Proprioceptors
- Adrenaline
How does temperature effect heart rate during exercise
Increased temperature causes increase speed of nerve transmission which stimulates the SA node which causes HR to increase
How does VR effect heart rate during exercise
An increase in blood returning to the heart causes an increased chamber wall stretch causing HR, SV and Q to increase
How to the receptors effect heart rate during exercise
The 3 receptors send info to the CCC which causes sympathetic nervous system to increase firing rate of the SA node which causes HR to increase
How does adrenaline effect heart rate during exercise (2 things)
- Stimulates sympathetic nervous system which increases the firing rate of the SA node
- Increases the force of cardiac contractions causing HR, SV and Q to increase
How do the 3 receptors decrease HR during recovery
Sends info to CCC which stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system which decreases the firing rate of the SA node
How does temperature effect heart rate during recovery
Decreases the speed of nerve transmission which reduces SA node stimulation which therefore lowers heart rate
