Problems And Solutions Of VR Flashcards
Why is an active recovery important
At the end of exercise the blood pools in the legs which causes a feeling of dizziness
What is the first problem with VR
The blood pressure in the veins that return blood back to the heart is 0
What is the second problem with VR
Most of SV is in the legs so has-to work against gravity to return to the heart
What is the first solution for VR
There are pocket valves in the larger veins to prevent the back flow of blood
What is the second solution of VR
The skeletal muscle pump. When skeletal muscles contract they widen and press against vein walls with pushes blood up towards the heart from the legs
What is the third solution of VR
Smooth muscle. In the vein walls there are some smooth muscle which allows for some vasoconstriction which helps move blood up towards the heart
What is the fourth solution of VR
Respiratory pump. During inspiration, diaphragm flattens, decreasing volume and increasing pressure in abdomen to below pressure in the thoracic cavity. This pressure differential pulls blood up towards the heart
What the fifth solution to VR
Gravity from above the heart. Gravity aids blood returning to the heart from above the heart
