What is vascular dementia?
A
Diagnostic criteria:
Presence of cerebrovascular disease
+
Clear temporal relationship between onset of dementia and the cerebrovascular disease
There is also coexistent amyloid pathology, slow progression, prognosis similar to AD

Who gets vascular dementia?
A
Late onset dementia (majority over 65 y/o)

How does vascular dementia present?
A
Subcortical (small vessel disease)
- Decreased attention
- Executive dysfunction
- Slowed processing
Post-stroke dementia:
-25% is within 3 months of stroke
