What is adenosis?
Islands of endocervical mucosa…persistence of columnar cells in the upper 1/3 of vagina
If a primary vaginal cancer were to occur, what would be a likely association and where would it likely be?
Likely associated with HPV and would be located in the upper 1/3 (Mullerian) portion of the vagina
Some cancers can spread to the vagina. What are the most common cancers?
Direct extension of cervical, vulvar, or endometrial
Besides direct extension, how else can cancers spread to the vagina?
Hematogenously from breast, ovary, or kidney
What symptoms are expected with a malignant cancer to the vagina?
Bleeding
Discharge
What potentially metastatic vaginal cancer presents with grape-like clusters filling infants/young girls’ vaginas?
Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma
How is embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma treated?
Chemotherapy and then surgery
