How to vaccinations work
A
- introduce small quantities of dead or inactive forms of pathogen into body
- as pathogen is dead or inactive it can’t lead to disease in the patient
- wbc stimulated to produce antibodies against dead pathogen
- at same time wbc divides by mitosis
= produce lots of copies of itself
= copies of wbc stay in blood for decades
= if same pathogen renter body again wbc can produce correct antibodies quickly
= prevent infection

A
If enough people are vaccinated this also protects unvaccinated people
= means unvaccinated person can’t catch disease as no one around them can pass the pathogen on
