Q

What relay prevents the windshield anti-ice from being activated while the back-up pump is operating on priority two power? Where is it located?

A

The system is also automatically shut off if the auxiliary power unit (APU) generator is the only source of electrical power and the backup hydraulic pump is on. Under these conditions, 28 vdc from the APU is applied through the normally closed contacts of No. 2 and No. 1 ac generator contactors K2 and K1, through the energized contacts of APU/external power contactor K3, and the energized contacts of hydraulic emergency relay K19 to energize automatic cutout relay K21. With K21 energized, the 28 vdc is removed from the anti-ice controller and the system shuts off. Located on the RH Relay Panel.

Q

How does the windshield anti-ice system prevent ice accumulation?

A

The anti-ice system applies three-phase, 115 vac power to heater elements within the windshield to keep a temperature of 70°F to 115°F (21.1°C to 46.1°C) on the windshield surface.
