Rotor System Flashcards

1
Q

What must be done when blades contact on object resulting in the severing of the blades inboard of the tip cap?

A

If damage to blades includes severing blades inboard of tip cap, remove transmission and rotor head assembly and send to overhaul facility. Clearly tag all components “BLADE DAMAGE OCCURRED WHILE ROTOR HEAD IN MOTION”. Also explain what the blades hit, if known, and how badly helicopter parts were damaged. WP0353

Q

Is there any metal to metal contact permitted between the spherical bearing and the swashplate guide? Is it allowed for the Spherical Bearing Outer Race?

A

Measure gap between inner race and guide by insertingfeeler gage between swashplate guide and inner race of spherical bearing (Figure 1). MAXIMUM GAP IS 0.028-INCH. NO METAL-TO-METAL CONTACT PERMITTED.

Outer Race - MAXIMUM GAP IS 0.012-INCH. NO METAL-TO-METAL CONTACT PERMITTED.

Q

What must be done to a damper prior to installation if filled with preservative fluid?

A

If replacement damper is filled with hydraulicpreservativefluid, drain damper, refill with petroleum base hydraulic fluid, (WP 3254, Item 207), and bleed (WP 0830). WP0826

Q

When installing the main rotor head what must be verified with the spilt cones prior to installing?

A

Check serial number onsplitcones to ensure theyare a matched set. If numbers do not match, replacesplitcones. WP0790

Q

During the maintenance process of the Tail Rotor, when must a clamp-up check be done?

A

Any time the outboard/inboard retention plate, and tail rotor blades have been replaced, a clamp-up check must be done during the reinstallation process.
