- Gonococcal urethritis
- Non-gonoccocal urethritis
- Persistent or recurrent urethritis

Urethritis Non-Gonococcal Causes
A
- Chlamydia
- Mycoplasma genitalium
- UTI uncommon

Urethritis Recurrent Causes
A
- Probably multifactorial but usually no identifiable cause
- M. genitalium, U. urealyticum, T. vaginalis have all been implicated

Urethritis Epidemiology
A
- Most common condition in GUM clinics
- NGU most common
- Chlamydia most common in young people

Urethritis Presentation
A
- May be asymptomatic
- Discharge with or without blood
- Urethral pruritus, dysuria, or discomfort
- Systemic symptoms e.g. conjunctivitis or arthritis

Urethritis Investigations
A
- H/E, refer to GUM
- Urethral smear (if negative re-examine in 1 week)
- FPU for NAAT
- Pharyngeal and rectal swabs
- Screen for other STIs
- Urine dip
