Gonorrhoea Presentation
A
-Symptomatic in men, symptomatic in half of women
Men
-Urethral infection: discharge, dysuria, asymptomatic
-Rectal infection: usually asymptomatic, may cause discharge or bleeding
Pharyngeal infection
-Usually asymptomatic
Women
-Endocervical: frequently asymptomatic, increased/altered vaginal discharge,
-Urethral infection

Gonorrhoea Differentials
A
- Other causes of vaginal discharge e.g. chlamydia
- Other causes of pelvic pain e.g. endometriosis, appendicitis
- Other causes of pharyngitis

Gonorrhoea Ix
A
- Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT)
- Culture

Gonorrhoea Management
A
- Refer to GUM clinic
- Avoid intercourse until both they and partner have completed treatment
- Routine screening
- Ceftriaxone 500mg IM, azithromycin 1g orally
- Test of cure

A
-Gonococcal urethritis
-Spread
Women
-PID, peri-hepatitis
-Bartholins abscess
