HIV Presentation

A
  • Illness resembles glandular fever (fevers, sweats, malaise, lethargy, anorexia, nausea, myalgia…)
  • Most specific is maculopapular rash affecting upper part of body and mucosal ulcers in mouth and genital areas
  • Can get GI features
  • Starts 2-6 weeks after exposure and resolved in a week or two
  • Commensural infections as CD4 counts drop

A
  • Infectious mononucleosis caused by EBV
  • Toxoplasmosis
  • Rubella

  • Thrombocytopenia, mild anaemia, atypical lymphocytes

- HIV antibody and p24 antigen tests
