Post-term Pregnancy Definition
A
Pregnancy that progresses longer than 42 weeks
-Where possible use first trimester ultrasound rather than last menstrual period

Post-term Pregnancy Risks
A
- Increased mortality due to factors such as utero-placental insufficiency, meconium aspiration and intrauterine infection
- Larger babies, acidaemia, low APGAR, seizures…
- Maternal risks; obstructed labour, perineal damage, C-section, infection, traumatic delivery

5-10% prolonged beyond 42 weeks
-20% will need induction

- Lower SC fat, loose flaky and dry skin, fingernails and toenails may be longer and stained
- RFM, reduced volume of amniotic fluid, meconium stained amniotic fluid
