- Most important RF is diabetes mellitus
- Use of oral antibiotics
- Poor hygiene in uncircumcised males
- Immunosuppression
- Chemical irritation

A
Inflammatory, infective, pre-cancerous
Infection
-Candida, staph/strep, anaerobes…
Dermatological
- Fixed drug eruption
- Circinate balanitis (reactive arthritis)
- BXO
- Zoon’s balanitis

A
- Sore, inflamed, swollen glans/foreskin
- Phimosis
- Ulceration, plaques

Balanitis Investigations
A
- Blood/urine testing for glucose if DM possible
- Swab for microscopy
- GUM and screen partner if STI suspected

Balanitis Management
A
- Daily cleaning and drying
- Consult term if suspected germ cause
- Topical drug treatment informed by culture
- Clotrimazole or miconazole if fungal cause suspected
