must be completed by the doc within 24 hours of emergency abortion
what is the HSA4 form?
completed by doc and sent to chief medical officer within 7 days of abortion
what gets done at a termination of pregnancy consultation?
talk about certain to proceed/ other option USS to determine gestation complete medical history discuss methods available written consent for procedure bloods optional screening for STI counselling and eductaion re. contraception
what are the legal gestation limits?
23 weeks 6 days for social termination before 24 weeks
for fetal anomlay- any gestation
in tayside what are limits for surgical termination?
up to 12 weeks
in tayside what are the limits for medical termination?
up to 18 week and 6 days ( before 19 weeks)
what happens in a medical termination of pregnancy
what are the 2 stages
- oral mifepristone 200mg
- 24 -48 hours later either vaginal or oral misoprostol or gemeprost
if early (< 9 weeks) can complete second stage at home if wanted
if later on may need repeated doses at stage 2 every 3 hours or so
if this fails, then surgery will be required
what are the 2 surgical methods?
vacuum aspiration (6-12 weeks)
or
dilation and evacuation (13-24 weeks) not done in scotland
what are the risks of getting a termination?
pain bleeding infection incomplete/failure cervical trauma uterine perforation/rupture
what are the 3 methods of emergency contraception?
copper IUD
3 day pill- oral levonelle
5 day pill- oral ellaone (more expensive)
