The passé composé of most verbs is formed with a present-tense form of avoir, followed by the past participle verb.
- j’ai = I have
- tu as = you have
- il a = he has
- elle a = she has
- nous avons = we have
- vous allez = you have
- ils ont = they have
- elles ont = they have
[avoir + p.p.]
–er ⇒ é
To change –er verbs to past-tense verbs, drop the –er and replace with é.
Ex. travaill_er_ ⇒ travaill_é_
to work ⇒ worked
Add in the avoir conjugations to form a sentence.
Ex. J’ai travaillé.
I have worked. / I worked.
–ir ⇒ i
To change –ir verbs to past-tense verbs, drop the –ir and replace with i.
Ex. finir ⇒ fini
to finish ⇒ finished
Add in the avoir conjugations to form a sentence.
Ex. Tu as fini.
You have finished. / You finished.
–re ⇒ u
To change –re verbs to past-tense verbs, drop the –re and replace with u.
Ex. attendre ⇒ attendu
to attend ⇒ attended
Add in the avoir conjugations to form a sentence.
Ex. Il a attendu.
He has attended. / He attended.
Ex. Elle a attendu.
She has attended. / She attended.
They traveled.

You have gained weight.
